TALUQAN, Afghanistan-Four pro-government militiamen have been confirmed dead as Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint outside Taluqan, the capital of Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province on Saturday, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir said.
A group of Taliban militants stormed a checkpoint of pro-government militiamen in Tarmabai area in the outskirts of Taluqan city at 1:00 a.m. local time Saturday, killing four and injuring five others, the official confirmed.
Taliban militants also suffered casualties, Asir said but could not give an exact figure. In the meantime, a security official on the condition of anonymity asserted that three Taliban insurgents had been killed and three others injured in the fighting lasted for a while.
The Taliban outfit has yet to make comment. Enditem (Xinhua)
