President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Saturday evening reached Madan Bhandari Shanti Batika in Koteshwor and garlanded a life size statue of people’s leader Madan Bhandari on the occasion of the 68th Birth Anniversary of Madan Bhandari. She also lit candles and planted tree saplings on the occasion. Earlier on May 18, 1995 President Bhandari had visited the park and planted tree saplings.
In attendance on the occasion were Nepal Communist Party senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Attorney General Agni Kharel and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya among others.
The programme was organised by the Madan Bhandari Memorial Park Conservation Committee with help from the the integrated consumers’ association and the community development committee.
President Bhandari reached the park at around 7:30pm and spent there for around half an hour. She was welcomed by a dense participation of local people who gathered there for this purpose at around 5pm.
The people attending the event voiced ‘happy birthday to you’ referring to Madan Bhandari while President Bhandari was lighting candles and garlanding the statue of Madan Bhandari to mark his birth anniversary. Thereafter, she waved to the attendees and onlookers.
