President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the historical Makawanpurgadhi (fort) should be preserved.
Speaking in a programme organized by the Makawanpugadhi Rural Municipality on the occasion of 256th Victory day of Gurkha battalion over the Bangal Mir Kasim battalion in the war.
She opined for preserving the fort and environs as it was an important place in course of unifying the then principalities.
The Nepalese battalion had defeated the Gugin Khan led Muslim warriors. President Bhandari also suggested that the fort could be developed as the tourist destination by the government.
She added that Nepal has a glorious, sovereign and independent history which all Nepalis pride on.
Speaking in the programme, Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel also stressed the preservation of the citadel. He also shared that the provincial government had allocated budget to protect and develop the area as the historical tourist destination.
