Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said although NC tried a lot to take democracy and monarchy together, monarchy collapsed as the King failed to work in line with democracy.
He reminded that the past leaders as BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and GP Koirala tried to take democracy and monarchy together since 2007 BS, the king did not abide by democratic values, causing the monarchy to dissolve.
Leader Deuba was saying this at a talk programme on ‘A decade of Republic’ organized by NC Central Policy, Research and Training Academy here Tuesday. He also argued that the King betrayed democracy.
According him, republic without democracy is meaningless. Republic is irrevocable now in Nepal, he added. He blamed the present government of bringing anti-democratic bills.
The former prime minister asserted that republic is the agenda of NC, and was its duty to ensure republic is taken ahead along with democracy.
The NC is observing the republic day by organizing a variety of programmes for three days starting today.
